There are not many things that family members of different generations can do together as a family but enjoying the water and water sports is something that family members of all ages can enjoy. Rather than just planning a family reunion, think of planning a family reunion around the lake or ocean.

There are many water sports that center around the water that the whole family can enjoy. If someone in the family owns a boat or wants to rent a boat for the occasion the elder members of the party can enjoy basking in the sun and watching the younger generations play in the water. Everyone will also enjoy sailing around and seeing the sites.

Other activities that people of all ages can enjoy are fishing trips. Children will enjoy being able to catch a fish while older generations will enjoy teaching the younger how to cast and reel in a fish.

If the members of your family are still active and up for an adventure suggest taking the whole family kayaking or canoeing. Kayaking and canoeing are great ways for the whole family to get involved in something that is both a work out and a whole bunch of fun. Kayaking and canoeing will also allow you to take your family to new and exciting places that boats are not able to go to because smaller vessels can squeeze into caves and float around coves. If you need some refreshing in being active, consider going to http://www.411.ca and hiring a trainer to help you out.

While planning a trip for the whole family can be difficult because of various ages and various athletic ability, if you plan to do something around the water the whole family is likely to have a great time.

Participating in extreme sports can offer an adrenaline rush, and is a popular hobby of individuals of all ages. There are many sports that are typically considered to be extreme, such as skydiving, bungee jumping, water skiing, wind surfing, rock climbing, and other exciting activities. The term extreme basically refers to the high level of physical exertion required in order to succeed.

Aquatic extreme sports are most popular during the warm summer months, and many people enjoy actively participating. Water skiing is one of the favorite pastimes of those who make frequent trips to a lake, but learning to get up on the skis can be tough. It requires a good amount of balance and leg strength in order to remain standing. Once a person feels comfortable with simply riding the skis, he or she may decide to start attempting tricks and jumps.

Wind surfing is another fun way to spend some time in the water. Boards can be rented at most surf shops, so amateurs won’t have to invest too much money in trying out this sport. There are also plenty of instructors who can offer tips and tricks to balancing on the board, when to pull up the sail, and how to keep the board upright. Many windsurfers also enjoy learning new tricks, so the sport will never get boring.

Choosing an extreme sport is a fun way to stay active and have fun. Parents often enjoy participating in sports with their children, allowing them to keep up with the fast-paced lifestyles.

A lot of people think that athletes don’t deserve to wear comfortable clothing when they work out. While some athletes like to wear trash bags and hoodies so they can sweat more and get thinner, this is far from the case for most athletes. When you work out, you generally only need to sweat enough to keep your body cool and be able to focus on getting stronger at your athletic endeavor of choice.

The great thing about apparel like Nike athletic clothing lies in how it’s made. While traditional athletic clothing tended to be bulky and not breathe very well, a good set of athletic threads will allow you to sweat through them. If you’re out in the sun, your sweat-soaked outfit will do more than just keep you cooler. It will even act like sunscreen as it repels some of the sun’s radiation and lets you avoid getting some sunburns. Of course, you need to find the kind of clothing that allows you to breathe and move most effectively, both for your comfort and for your maximum athletic performance.

When you go out to work out, you have to consider that how you train is how you are going to perform in competition. If you find yourself dragging along because your athletic clothes are like a combination of sails and fishing nets, this will both help and hinder you. It will help you get stronger, which will help you push forward in competition. But it will also get you to do small adaptive motions that could actually slow you down worse. The best athletic clothes only help you.

Warm weather is here, and that means the water is calling! Pool pro or not, brushing up on water safety guidelines is a smart way for your family to start the summer; chances are good you’ll be spending a lot of it near water. Check out this quick safe swimming refresher course before you and your family dive into water activities.

Safe Swimming

Learn to swim. Even basic swimming skills can provide a measure of safety.

Inexperienced swimmers and children should use an approved flotation device.

Never allow a child near a pool alone. Keep your eyes on your swimming child at all times.

Choose pools or beaches monitored by a lifeguard, and obey safety signs and posted rules.

Know the condition of the water you’re swimming in and its environment, especially lakes, ponds, and oceans. Know depth, wave conditions, and potential hazards before you swim.

Establish family rules of water safety which should be followed even at a friend’s house.

Don’t swim alone, and make sure you stay within a safe distance of land or friends should you need help.

Even experienced swimmers can overdo it; don’t swim if you feel fatigued or ill.

Water Safety: More Than Swimming

The American Red Cross provides a wealth of excellent water safety guidelines specific to each water activity you’ll be enjoying this summer. Safe swimming guidelines will provide basic protection for most water activities, but it’s important you know the rules and guidelines for other water recreation. Days on the beach? Afternoons on the boat? Testing out new jet skis? Know how to stay safe while you have fun.

Are you searching for your next family vacation? There are many travel options, depending on your budget and personal tastes. Cruising is a good way to satisfy many people’s varying interests and is a fun way to spend time with your family. Read on for some fun things you can look forward to on your cruise experience.

Entertainment abounds for every age and interest. For your younger friends, there are hours of entertainment to be found at the pool (water slides and floaties always keep things fun). Some ships also have kid zones, where there are games, crafts and shows just for kids. Mom and Dad can rest easy knowing their kids are taken care of, as some of these areas include babysitting.

Many families shy away from cruising because it can be expensive, but there are ways to do things on a budget. If you are worried about breaking the bank with this vacation, there are some ways to keep things in check. First, always look for cruise deals. This can discount the price by hundreds of dollars. Second, have flexible travel dates.

For the teenager in your family, teen zones include places to play video games and music clubs, as well as water sports on board (you can surf on the ship!) and sports such as basketball, ping pong and shuffleboard. For Mom and Dad, there’s plenty of time to relax. While the kids are off playing, indulge in a massage at the spa or maybe explore one of the specialty restaurants. Adult-only pools offer a peaceful atmosphere for enjoying a dip in the water. If you’re feeling the need to be adventurous, join your kids on the basketball court or water slide.

Cruising is a great way to spend time with and grow closer to your family. Give your family the gift of quality time and create memories that they’ll never forget. Book your vacation today.

When you think of sports betting, you probably think of football. Luckily, this is not the only sport that you can bet on. In fact, there are many different kinds of sports available to put your money on, including many water sports. Betting on sports is a favorite pastime of many people and has become even more popular with online betting becoming available. Making your bet on your favorite water sport is a great way to show your support and make some extra money.

Since there is a larger market online than there ever has been in sports bars or clubs, sports betting has expanded. In the past, you may not have been able to find someone to bet against on the outcome of the diving competition in the Olympics. Staying local was a big hindrance to those who were interested in betting on water sports. Now, you can find many people interested in these wagers.

Placing online bets for sports has opened many doors. Since you are betting against people all over the world, you will find that there are many who are interested in swim competitions, boat racing and other aquatic sports. You aren’t relegated to land-based sports! Those that love the water can now rejoice.

Many people bet on the Olympics, and specifically the swimming competitions. Michael Phelps has been extremely popular to bet on or against. Whether you choose to bet on a country or a specific athlete, you will find that you have many options to make money by betting on water sports.

Whether you watch all the major surf competitions, or you only watch the diving category for the Olympics, you will find that water sports are a great way to make some extra money. Place your bet and watch the competitions begin. As with any other gaming venture, keep the stats in mind when you place your bet and only wager what you can afford to lose.

Most people dream of being able to turn their favorite hobby into a well-paying career. If you’re a scuba diver and want to pursue a career that allows you to dive or work with underwater life, you’ll be happy to know that plenty of careers exist that will enable you to make money doing what you love.

A few of the careers available to those who love diving and sea life include:

Marine biology

Scuba instruction

Drilling

Hazmat

Zoology

Touring/Cruise ships

These are just a few of the fields that could allow you to turn your love for diving into a paying job. Choosing the right major in college is also important for those who want to pursue a career in diving. Some of the majors and courses to consider include:

Biology

Anthropology

Hospitality (for those considering working in the tourism industry)

Construction

Business (for those who want to open their own dive store or lead dive teams

Regardless of the field you choose to go into, choosing the right college and taking the right classes is important. When choosing a school, most choose between a traditional campus-based curriculum and online school. With a campus school, students typically attend full-time. Professors and counselors can also help students choose the best courses for their chosen careers.

Online degrees offer similar benefits. One of the best things about getting online degrees is the flexibility of scheduling. Many students who want to pursue careers in diving work full-time or do internships during the day, allowing them to graduate with a degree and a great deal of experience at the same time.

Scuba diving doesn’t have to be just a hobby—there are plenty of careers available to those who want to turn their love of diving into a well-paying job and a number of majors to choose from.

There are so many different colors and shapes of fishing lures out there – the selection can be very daunting for a new fisherman. Actually, scratch that – it can be overwhelming for any fisherman, inexperienced or not. Here is a quick guide to help you get started in the right direction so that you don’t waste your money on tackle that you don’t actually need.

Know the kind of fish you want to catch. Different lures work for different fish – typically it’s the size and shape that matter, not the color. Make sure you spend some time researching the species of fish that you are targeting so that you don’t get a lure that will be too large to fit in their mouth. Likewise, a lure that is too small won’t even entice them to bite it.

Don’t get caught up in the advertising. There thousands of different types of lure and someone obviously has to sell them. For this reason it is very important that you use common sense when you are setting out to buy your tackle – you don’t have to copy every pro fisherman that you see on TV.

Know the fishing conditions that you are going to be in. for instance, if you are going to be in an area that has a lot of heavy vegetation and thriving plant life you will need to pick a heavier lure. If you don’t, the chances of it just floating at the surface or getting tangled up are going to be drastically increased.

If you are still unsure about what kind of lure that you need to buy consider going with a simple hook and a worm. If that doesn’t sound appealing at least get the opinion of a few sales people in the camping and fishing section before you shell out the money.

For seasoned swimmers who are getting ready to participate in a triathlon, it’s important to find the right equipment. There are many types of specialized equipment designed for the unique needs of the triathlete that will help you get through your race as fast and comfortably as possible.

You already know how a wetsuit gives you a competitive advantage in the water; the same is essential of your bicycle. You will get the greatest speed and cover the most distance in a bike designed specifically for triathlons.

How exactly is a triathlon bike different from an ordinary lightweight road bike? Everything about the triathlon bicycle’s design and composition, from water bottle placement to seat design, is intended to save the rider both time and energy during this leg of the race. Main differences include:

Seat Placement – The seats on triathlon bikes are slightly steeper so you work less of your hamstrings while cycling. This means you save your leg strength for the running portion of the triathlon, where you’ll need your hamstrings and glutes more. Less fatigue after the cycling portion can literally take minutes off your run.

Different Shifting Mechanisms – With a triathlon bike, you have bar-end shifting, allowing you to shift right into the aero position without having to deal with braking. Road bikes include aero and braking in the handlebars instead, which is more cumbersome.

Gears – Road bikes have more ring chains in the gearing than triathlon bikes, which in turn adds extra weight and can slow you down.

Simplified Front End – The front end of a triathlon bike includes less than a road bike. Road bikes have mechanisms for shifting, braking, hood, and so forth up front. Different placement of these items makes for less weight on a triathlon bike. Less weight means more speed.

Choosing a triathlon bike can be daunting, but for those who plan to be competitive in triathlons, the right bicycle is essential.

Lake fishing is a completely different form of fishing than river sport. For this reason there are different techniques that you have to employ if you hope to catch anything while you are out. Here are a few key things to remember while you are busying fishing at the lake this weekend.

Be patient while you are waiting. Constant movements will almost guarantee that you don’t catch any fish – they sense even the slightest jerks and vibrations. This is why the holders for the fishing poles come in really handy while you are lake fishing – you don’t have to even touch the pole and risk scaring a fish until you already know it’s hooked on the line!

Bring a long enough fishing line. The water in the lake is typically much deeper than that of a river. For this reason it is very important to plan your trip accordingly – if you don’t bring a long enough fishing line you will never get to the bottom where the really big ones are.

Know where to look. The best thing you can do as a fisherman is to learn where the fish like to hang out in the lake. For instance, they probably won’t be anywhere near the shore where they are easily visible! Instead, try fishing around reeds, lily pads and floating logs.

Fishing is meant to be an enjoyable sport that can relax you – if you’re lucky you will even get to put some dinner on the table. The key thing to remember is that you are not entitled to catch any fish. Thinking like that will almost ensure you don’t ever catch one.

There are completely different techniques when it comes to sport fishing in a river – especially when you are comparing it to a lake or a slow moving stream. For instance, small movements are not going to scare off the fish if they are about to bite your worm. Here are a few very basic tips that will help you land the fish the next time you head out to the river.

Always have a net handy. River fish are very strong because their body is almost completely made up of muscle. For this reason, trying to land them with a hook and a line alone is a relatively impractical idea – unless of course you are looking for the small fry. A net is a really handy tool to land larger fish because it will prevent you from losing them to a snapped line.

Don’t be afraid to get in the water. You really cannot get around getting wet when you are fishing in the river – sometimes you even have to follow the fish halfway out. For this reason you should always invest in some water proof gear before you head out.

Be completely aware of your surroundings. You are not the only one trying to catch the fish in the river – fisherman often encounter bears at the shore while they are out. For this reason it is very important to know your surroundings.

River fishing is a more hands on experience than say, lake fishing – your chances of getting soaked at the lake is pretty slim unless you slip head first into the water! However, for those that are dedicated and skilled enough river fishing poses a very exciting challenge.

Bass fishing is one of the most popular forms of sport fishing out there – there are all kinds of different lures you can use and times of day that you can find the fish. However, if you are inexperienced all the information can become very overwhelming and you will not know where to start – in fact, it may seem like bass are incredibly elusive fish! Here are a few of the top bass fishing techniques that should help land your first catch.

Study the different times of day. You can literally catch bass any time of day. However, there are certain advantages to early morning, afternoon, and evening fishing.

Know the different advantages to the lures. Different lures accomplish different tasks. For instance, you will need a different type of spinner if you plan on fishing later in the day. The best thing you can is slowly build up your tackle box with lures that have produced consistent results for you already.

Just get out there and do it! You can read about the secret techniques and lures all day, but if you don’t actually get out there and try them out for yourself you will never learn. After all, you can’t brag about someone else’s catch!

The best thing that you can do for yourself is to just start fishing! You will gain a lot of firsthand experience that will help you more than a simple article can. Besides, you will make a lot of fun memories along the way.

Fishing with a loved one can easily become a very treasured memory – and the skills that are learned can become invaluable over time. For instance, fishing takes a lot of patience. However, it can be very difficult to teach another person how to fish after it has become second nature to you. Here are a few tips that will help you teach a child how to catch their first fish.

Have patience – do not rush things. The learning curve can take a long time, especially since it often takes several hours to see any type of movement. You will make the process easier for a younger child if you bring other activities along that will keep them occupied while you are waiting for a fish to bite.

Use barbless hooks to start with. Children can seriously injure themselves with fish hooks. For this reason you should always teach a younger child how to fish with a barbless hook or lure that is meant for catch and release. You can let them move up to actual hooks when they are confident enough to do so.

Let them watch you first. The best way to teach a child anything is to let them watch you do it first – there are a lot of subtle movements that they will pick up on that you would not think to explain. This is especially important when it comes time to hook a worm or unhook their first fish.

There is no reason that a child cannot learn how to fish – unless of course they are too young to hold the pole! However, it is very important to remember that it is your responsibility as the adult to ensure they are employing safe practices.

There are a lot of great informational shows and products out there that can help you catch bass. In fact, bass are one of the most popular sport fish in world now due to ease of which you can catch them! However, it is very important to maintain a sense of reality while you are watching the programs and reading the books. Here are a few tips that will help prevent you from wasting your money on bass fishing products that you don’t need.

Most shows aren’t as truthful as they could be. The majority of programs and clips are paid by a sponsor. What this means to you is that the lures and baits that you see the fisherman using are not necessarily the best that there are – they are simply selling a product for their sponsor. However, this does not mean that they won’t give you good information as well – just be aware that they have a job to do too if they want the money.

The fish that you see are probably caught prior to filming. Using pre-caught fish is a lot easier than actually catching the fish on set – it takes less time and there is much less room for error.

You don’t need a specific color of fishing lure to catch bass. Just because someone caught a huge bass using a particular lure that has ten spots, five different colors and it jingles doesn’t mean that you have to buy that one too. There are all kinds of different lures that you can catch bass with – they really are not that picky!

As long as you use common sense you should not have to worry about wasting money on tackle that you do not need. Just get out there and have some fun – you’ll eventually learn how to catch fish on your own!

Fishing isn’t for everyone, and neither is actually eating the fish that you catch. In fact, some people absolutely hate the taste of fish! Occasionally, the water may not even be safe enough to eat the fish from. Here are a few of the biggest advantages of a catch and release program.

It conserves the native fish population. There is no way to completely avoid catching endangered species of fish unless you just don’t fish at all. With a catch and release mentality you can still fish because you will not be harming the ones that you come into contact with.

It’s a safe way to teach children to fish. Kids really should not be taught how to fish with a hook their first trip or two – you are only asking for a hook in the nose because of a slip! You can graduate up to using a real hook after they are confident in their ability to catch and release fish without one.

You don’t have to eat the fish. The taste of fish is not for everyone – some people are even allergic to them. On the other hand, some people just like fish too much to actually kill them with their own hands.

You can still catch fish even if you aren’t allowed to kill them. There are daily and yearly bag limits on almost all species of native wildlife – and fish definitely are not exempt.

There are a lot of other reasons why catch and release programs are very beneficial to implement. The best part about them is that you don’t even have to hook the fish using the traditional method if you don’t want to – there are all kinds of barbless hooks and lures out there designed with the program in mind.

The most exciting thing about fishing is realizing that you actually have a fish on the hook! However, getting it off can be a completely different matter – especially if you don’t have any experience unhooking struggling fish before. Here are a few tips that will help you perfect your method of unhooking fish from your line.

Always keep a pair of working pliers with you. You simply cannot get the hook out of the fish with your hands – if you try to do so you will only put yourself at risk because the fish will be thrashing wildly in an attempt to escape. Nothing is worse than pulling the fish hook out and then realizing that it’s deeply imbedded in your own thumb!

Make sure you have a firm grasp on the fish before you start. A fish out of water will be scared and struggling very hard – because of this you will need to make sure you have a good hold on their entire body before you try pulling the hook out. If you don’t have a firm grasp on them you will only end up injuring the fish, yourself or the both of you.

Make the procedure as quick as possible. Fish cannot stay out of water for very long. If you are not confident in your ability to quickly remove the hook make sure that you either have someone else who has experience with you, or an available source of fresh water to dip the fish in every few minutes.

If you are only fishing for the fun of it and are not planning on eating the fish you may want to consider replacing your hooks with special lures and barbless hooks that are meant for catch-and-release. Doing so will dramatically decrease the amount of trauma that the fish receive and you will no longer have to worry about unhooking multiple barbs from a fish’s lip.

There is no reason why a fishing trip cannot be a safe and enjoyable event. However, in order to ensure the safety of you and your family there are a few guidelines that you will have to follow. Here are some helpful tips that will keep everyone as safe and happy as possible during your next fishing excursion.

Always supervise your children. There are all kinds of safety hazards on a fishing trip. For instance, most children who drown in a lake do so because an adult looked away for just a second or two. Fish hooks and fishing line can also pose a threat to younger children. The hooks are very sharp and can easily puncture delicate skin – the fishing line is very easy to tangle up and get looped around a small child’s neck.

Keep the fish hooks in a locked container. In order to prevent your children from playing with fish hooks you should always keep them out of reach and in a secure container. This also applies when there are no children present – adults can easily forget about a bucket of fish hooks and knock them over. Trying to get a sharp hook out a foot is not very much fun, and it will probably warrant an ER visit.

Don’t get too focused. Aside from the threat that the actual water can pose, there is also a lot of native wildlife that can potentially harm your family. Always be on the lookout for bears and large game cats while you are fishing – they don’t always make a lot of noise when they approach. For this reason you should never fish around dawn or dusk with small children.

The key to keeping your family safe during a fishing trip is to just be aware of all the potential hazards. You don’t have to become overly paranoid, but you do have to acknowledge that something as simple as discarded fishing line can pose a threat.

There is one major step that you need to take before you set out to buy all your tackle, poles and other gear – you will need to figure out what kind of habitat the fish you are seeking live in. For instance, fishing techniques that work for river fish don’t necessarily yield high results if you use them on fish that live in a very deep lake setting. Here are a few of the different types habitats that fish live in.

Fast moving rivers. These are the fish that are made up of a large percentage of muscle. They are used to swimming against strong currents and because of this will probably give you a good fight before you are able to net them onto the boat. Make sure the line you are using is strong enough to withstand their struggling.

Bottom dwelling lake fish. This is where are all the huge fish are living – for instance, the giant catfish that people rave about catching. These will be primarily sedentary fish that are lurking in the dark waiting for their next meal. Again, make sure your fishing line is strong enough so it won’t snap.

Shallow water dwellers. These are the type of fish that are primarily insectivores in the wild. They wait close to the surface of the water for some type of flying insect or spider to land on the water. If you look closely, the majority of these fish with have a mouth similar to a pelican – perfectly suited to scoop bugs from above their head.

If you are trying to teach your child to swim you might want to follow a few of these tips for a more enjoyable lesson that just might save their life. Swimming is a major skill that could save a child’s life when there is no adult around to watch them. If you have a pool make sure that it has a fence and a locked gate. This helps detour children from going into the pool alone, but kids do climb and find ways in. This is where lifesaving swimming skills comes in.

If you have a toddler the best way to teach them is with your hand underneath their belly. This gives the child a safe feeling and that they won’t drown. Teach your child with arm floaters at first so they get used to being in the water. The easiest way for a child to swim is the dogpaddle this simple technique can save their life if they fall in a pool without their floaters. Your child can dogpaddle to the side of the pool so they can then use the wall to maneuver to the shallow end and get out.

Help your child learn to swim by going into the shallow end and asking them to come in. When they see that there are other people having fun they can’t help themselves and have to jump in. Stand in the shallow end and when your kid is ready to jump in they will. Do not force your child or they may develop anxiety to water and swimming. When they jump into the pool be there to grab them before they start struggling to keep their head up. Place your hand underneath them and have them start dogpaddling for you. Do little circles first and when they get tired have them dogpaddle to the side of the pool to hand on and catch their breath. This shows them that the edge is the safe zone and if they find themselves alone in the middle of the pool they can always swim to it.

Wake boarding is a great water activity and is best enjoyed when all the safety precautions have been followed. Always wear a life jacket when wake boarding – this simple device as saved thousands of lives. Absolutely no one should be drunk when on the water – just following this rule alone could have saved thousands of teenagers and young adults combined. Being impaired on the water is more dangerous than on the road. We are land creatures if you haven’t noticed your legs lately and they don’t work well in water if you’re drunk.

Anyone that is new to wake boarding should take it slow and have someone tell them what to do. Reinforce safety techniques so they are not easily forgotten when everyone is out having fun on the water. If everyone knows what to do in case of emergency it can lift the anxiety of being on the water. Most people don’t want to say that they are scared when they go out to have fun, because they don’t want to ruin it for everyone. Make sure everyone is rehearsed in what to do if they are left on the water alone. This will make sure that the new people who are afraid to speak up know what they need to do.

Wake boarding can be a very fun sport for anyone who is willing to try it out and most of the time everyone comes back home safe. When people start doing stupid things on the water that’s when accidents happen and people get hurt. Make sure that anyone who is new to the water sport knows not to play around until they get the feel of it. Advance wake boarders can do what they want, because they have been out on the water many times before. They already have a feel of how the water moves and how to avoid danger when it comes their way. New comers have to play it safe for a little bit and the advance wake boarders get to play.

When you go rafting what do you take? What gear is necessary to bring on your trip? Rafting is a sport that requires careful preparation. When getting ready for a trip out on the water you must remember a few things.

First is the no-brainer. You must prepare a raft. An inflatable raft is definitely an essential for a trip down the river. Make sure you inspect the raft before you head out and watch for holes, rips or other damage that may cause your raft to not work properly.

Next you need a pump. Without a pump this trip is impossible. You don’t want to try to take a deflated raft on the water. Pump your raft to its capacity and bring the pump along in case of deflation. This is also where a repair kit will come in handy.

Thirdly, ask yourself what makes the raft move? The oars of course! Do not forget the oars or you will be out of luck. This is one of the necessary components in rafting and probably the most important. This is what helps you navigate through the water and keep you upright in rapids.

Then, you are out on the water so a waterproof sack is essential for a trip like this. This is where you will store your food, camera, extra clothes, toothbrush, first aid kit, repair kit and other various personal items that you do not want to get wet. Your waterproof sack is your protection for most of your gear.

Lastly, you will need clips or carabiners in order to get your gear off of the bottom of your raft floor. Even with the waterproof sack you should keep your gear above the floor to keep it safe from water damage. Straps also come in handy to help keep your gear safe by strapping it to the walls of your raft.\t

When rafting, especially on multi-day trips, you need to be prepared. A repair kit is essential for almost any rafting trip. If all you are doing is floating down one mile it is still a good idea to include a repair kit in your bag.

Repair kits are easy to prepare and even more important to remember. Duct tape should be the first thing you include in your kit. True its not high-tech repair device, but it’s a safe, cheap method of fixing small tears or holes that make occur while rafting.

Something that is great to have along in your repair kit is a small patch kit. Fabric that matches that of your raft is preferred. If you cannot find an exact match, try to get as close as you can. Most rafts come with extra fabric for this exact purpose. Repair glue is an essential in truly repairing holes or rips in your raft.

Make sure that you also include a small brush and scissors. You do not want your patch to be too big so be sure to cut it down to size. Then you want to apply the glue with a small brush to prevent it staying on your fingers.

Next, you don’t want to forget sandpaper. This is to scuff up the area that needs repairing. Sandpaper works best to provide a scratchy surface for the glue to settle in with and repair the damaged area of the raft with ease.

After using your sandpaper and glue you want to provide a rag to wipe away any extra glue that may have seeped out. This is to keep your raft smooth and free of bumps. If the hole is on the bottom of the raft and you patch it fast and it ends up unsmooth it may significantly slow down your progress down the river.

Waterskiing is an exciting recreational activity. But how do you chose the water ski that is best for you? Choosing the right ski can make all the difference in becoming an expert or wiping out every time. But how do you choose the right one? What is the difference between them? Chances are your skis fit into one of four different categories. The different types of water skis are combination pairs, trick skis, jump skis and slalom skis.

Combination pairs are the skis that most likely you learned on, or are about to learn on as a beginner. These skis are a little wider and allow for more balance and control. They are the most common because the are so easy to work with.

Trick skis are skis that are used for doing tricks such as jumping or spinning. The reason these skis are special for tricks is because they have no fins on them. That makes them harder to control, but easier to slide across the water and easier to turn and maneuver. It is advised to be at an intermediate to expert level skier before attempting these skis.

Jump skis are specially designed for jumping off of ramps. They are long and wide and are made of specific material that helps glide you along the ramp. Don’t be fooled by how light they are, because these skis are very durable and strong.

The last category of skis is the slalom skis, which is probably the most advanced of the categories. This type of ski has only one ski instead of two. Though the flat bottom and wide tail allow you to go faster and right straighter, it is more difficult to control and ride. This ski is mainly used for people who like to make sharper turns and ride faster.

Located near Logan, Utah is a river called The Maze. The Maze is part of Cutler Marsh, and it provides an easy and relaxing paddle. This river has calm waters that prove to have beautiful sights as you navigate your way through the marsh. The view makes for great day trip with many photo opportunities and impressive memories. With no fees and gorgeous resting areas it is an ideal trip for any kayaking group.

Now the marsh didn’t get its name for just any reason. In order to navigate through The Maze it is advised to follow the trails clearly marked by buoys. These buoys have two orange stripes that make it easy to spot. There are quite a few trails on The Maze, so figuring out your journey beforehand helps navigate through it even easier. In the case that you get lost, a GPS can be very helpful on this river.

One trail that provides beautiful sights and a peaceful trip is the North Marsh Canoe Trail. This trail can be found by looking for and following slow moving water in The Little Bear River. By starting at Cutler Marsh Marina this trail continues underneath the Valley View Highway and requires navigating through some small islands. You will then find yourself in open water until the trail then leads you to Benson Marina.

Another trail you may follow is the Logan River Canoe Trail. This trail also starts at the Cutler Marsh Marina and continues by heading south. After a few hundred yards you will find yourself needing to head east and until you reach the Logan River. This trail is also marked by the orange stripped buoys. The current here is slow enough and tame enough that paddling upstream should be no problem.

Anglers all around the world will tell you that fishing is not just a sport, it is an art. It is not all just about throwing the line in and waiting for the fish to catch a hold. There is a technique to fishing and ways to attract the fish that let you bring home the bacon, or in this case, the fish. The two most common ways to fish are traditional lure fishing and fly fishing.

With traditional fishing it is important for the lure and the hook to lead the line and weight it down, but with fly fishing you need to know exactly where you are and the water speed and direction. The fly is too light to weigh down the line so the angler must let the water guide his fly. Once it is in the water, the angler watches it and waits to catch a fish going in for his morning meal. It does not always happen quickly. In fact, the waiting process can be quite intense.

This method of fishing is one where the angler must outwit the fish. He must trick the fish into believing his fly is an actual insect and safe to eat. Sometimes the fish is fooled, while other times the angler watches as the fish refuse the bait.

Fly fishing is done on the top of the water if not just below. This provides some advantages compared to lure fishing. Fly fishing is usually done in extremely shallow waters and it is always a plus when there are very shallow areas with many rocks as fish tend to be attracted to those kind of areas.

The greatest fly fishers have devoted their life to fishing. Though it sounds easy enough, fly fishing can take years to master and is a sport that requires a lot of skill.

Have you ever wanted to go scuba diving but did not know what you needed? Have you wanted to explore the ocean floor but did not have the right gear? Having all the right gear can make the experience of scuba diving such an adventure.

First and most importantly you need to have all of the required gear ready in order to go scuba diving. The gear is as follows:
- Wet Suit
- Fins
-Mask
-Diving Bag
- BCD (Buoyancy Compensator Device)
- Regulator
- SPG (Submersible Pressure Gauge)
- Compass
- Dive Watch
- Dive Knife
- Depth Gauge
- Gloves
-Dive Computer
-Weight Belt
- Tank

Some of the equipment, like the mask, fins, wetsuit, compass and gloves are self explanatory as to what they are used for. But what is all the other equipment used for?

The BCD, or buoyancy compensator device, allows the diver to control their depth in the water. The SPG, or submersible pressure gauge, is used to measure the amount of breathing gas is left in the diving cylinder. The dive computer is used so that a diver can avoid decompression sickness. This is avoided by measuring the divers’ depth and the time of their dive so they can safely ascend.

There are also a few things that are optional to take. A flashlight or headlight, a camera and a whistle are just a few things that divers like to take down with them. Although divers have swim fins, they can also get through the water faster with extra optional equipment. Some of this equipment includes a DPV, or an underwater propulsion vehicle, or a sled that is pulled from the top of the water.

Scuba Diving has become important in many of today’s careers. Though originally combat divers in World War II used scuba diving first, it has become as much as a recreational sport as it has become used for commercial and professional use. Many jobs have come to require scuba diving. Marine biologist, underwater welding, underwater photography and aquarium maintenance are just a few of the careers that use scuba diving to their advantage.

Marine biologist use scuba diving to study oceanic organisms. By diving farther into the ocean than breath-holding techniques allow, they are able to further understand and study the life that presides in that peaceful environment. These biologists study anything from the smallest organism to how deep the oceanic trenches persist. This information would not be available without scuba diving.

Underwater welding, also known as hyperbaric welding, is an other job that requires diving to complete. This form of welding can be very dangerous, for it does pose a threat of electric shock to the diver, but it proves to be extremely effective. Welding in this way keeps damaged ships from being completely unusable.

Underwater photography is considered the hardest challenge of being a photographer. It requires diving beneath the surface along with specific skills and techniques. Though it can be challenging it rewards the photographer with many rare and beautiful views.

When scuba diving with a career such as aquarium maintenance you are no longer diving in the ocean. Though diving is still the same it is in a much more controlled environment. The excitement of”breathing underwater”is found just as thrilling as if you were in the ocean. Helping to maintain and organize an environment for aquatic life is still a rewarding career for any diver to experience.

Kayaking and canoeing are both fun and rewarding adventures. But what are they exactly? There are many similarities between the two sports including how the riders paddle them and similarities between the boats themselves.

Though many people who kayak and canoe like to paddle alone, there is always room for another person. In either sport the boat can be paddled by either a single rider, or by multiple paddlers. Having more than one person on the boat can help improve your chances of a steadier ride and a straighter passage through whitewater.

As suggested above, either boat is capable of wading through flat water or whitewater. Paddling through still water can entrance you with a calm peaceful float down the river, while forging your way through whitewater provides and exciting rush of adventure. In this perspective, kayaking or canoeing is just a difference of preference for the rider.

With the exception of a few states (Ohio and California included) it is not necessary to register either craft. You still do have the option to register it anyway, but without the registration you can go out and have your adventure. Canoeing and kayaking are both sports where you can just take it out on the water and go.

Unless you chose to add the motor on yourself, generally you are not going to find many motorized kayaks or canoes out on the water. In most cases, the motor comes separately and is not necessary to enjoy either sport. Both crafts are lightweight and sturdy enough by themselves that using just a paddle provides the rider with confidence and adventure.

Kayaking and canoeing both can be made from the same lightweight, sturdy material. This allows the boats to be both maneuverable and easy to turn. While other crafts are heavy and require motors, kayaks and canoes let the riders have control over their own adventure.

While canoeing and kayaking are similar in many ways, there are differences that set them apart. The adventure can be quite the same with either craft, or making the decision to go with a canoe over a kayak can make all the difference. Learning these differences can help you chose what method of river travel is best for you.

When looking for a kayak or canoe, the first thing you want to ask is how many people are going on the trip? Kayaks generally hold one person. There are special kayaks, called tandem kayaks that hold up to two people. Canoes, on the other hand, can hold multiple people. Though you don’t want to hold too many on the canoe, it can carry up three or four people. The benefit of having a canoe over a tandem kayak is that if you wanted to ride alone canoes provide the option of sitting in the middle to balance the canoe and paddle alone. Tandem kayaks do not allow the rider to be able to balance out, therefore making it impossible to ride a tandem kayak with a single person.

Though kayaks generally are completely flat bottomed, they do have the option of attached rudders. These are controlled by foot pedals and help turn the boat. Canoes are not capable of having these rudders.

Kayaks go faster. When you’re in a kayak it is closer to the surface of the water than a canoe is. This provides less drag and lets the rider paddle with more ease. Canoeing takes a little more effort to push it along the water, but is still just as rewarding.

Another difference between the two crafts is what they are made of. You will generally never find a metal kayak. Canoes are more commonly made of metal and, therefore, providing more stability.

Swimming can be a great way to relax and have fun, but when you want to swim better what is the best way to learn? What is it called when people swim on their back? Which positions make you swim faster?

First of all there are many types of strokes involved with swimming. The most common are breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and freestyle. These kinds of strokes are used in competitive swimming. The best way to learn how to do these stokes is to get out in the water and practice.

First, the breaststroke is swum on your stomach. You start by moving your legs in a frog motion while doing the same with your arms. Usually you do not want your arms to pass your shoulders. They should stay out in front of your body.

Next, the backstroke is done much differently. For this stroke your back should be against the water and you should be looking toward the sky. For this stroke you must kick your legs and pull yourself through the water by bringing your arms over your head and dragging them down through the water. Alternating your arms this stoke is one of the easiest.

The butterfly stroke is known to be the hardest stroke of all to learn. It is one of the most exhausting and difficult strokes for any swimmer. This stoke starts with dolphin kicking, which involves kicking simultaneously with both legs to maneuver through the water.
Along with kicking simultaneously your arms should move together as well. They should provide a windmill-like motion.

The last stroke is freestyle, which a lot of people learn when they are young. This one is what most people think of when they think of swimming. You start on your stomach and kick alternatively with both your arms and legs. Freestyle is the easiest stoke to learn.

Originating in the 1970′s, riverboarding started its claim to fame as just a few life jackets shoved in a mail sack. Later on, riders began to put plastic around it and, thus, the riverboard we know and love today came into existence. Today, it is one of the fastest growing water sports.

Riverboarding, also known as hydrospeed and white-water sledging, is a sport that requires only one person. The rider lays prone on the board while the PDF (personal flotation device) helps keep them buoyant. Fins help the rider to propel through the water and navigate through rapids. Steering is extremely important especially when going through whitewater. Avoiding obstacles such as large rocks, branches and small islands keeps the rider safe and out of harms way.

The riverboard itself is designed to handle ocean waves or river rapids. By protecting your upper body all the way down to your hips, it is a suitable sport for a beginner or an expert.

Rescue riverboarders need to be extra careful. Their board needs to be able to hold two people instead of one. Rescue use of these boards is a difficult task as the board must hold the rescuer and the victim while the rescuer maneuvers around the harmful obstacle. If they are not careful the rescuer can become the victim as well.

While, like any sport, it can be dangerous, it also can be thrilling and fun. Starting with small rapids is one of the most exciting parts of a new riverboarders adventure. But they also need to be prepared. Riverboarders wear more protective gear that just a PDF and fins. Shin guards, booties, wetsuits, helmets, gloves, elbow pads and knee pads are advised to always be in use for the beginner or expert riverboarder.

Fisherman love the summertime when it’s warm outside and the fish are biting, but what about when it gets colder? What do those anglers do when winter is around the corner threatening to freeze the water along with their wonderful sport?

The get ready for ice fishing! Ice fishing is just as great a sport as fishing in the summer. The first thing an angler needs to do in order to get ready for ice fishing is find a place to go. Not only do they need to find a frozen lake, but also make sure that there are fish underneath all that ice.

The next thing the angler needs to prepare is to make sure he is wearing the right attire. Possibly the most important piece of clothing you are going to need are nice warm boots. Your toes are the first things that get cold and possibly frostbitten if you do not prepare correctly. Waterproof, insulated boots with some traction are the ideal footwear for this sport.

After you have all the right attire on, you must make sure you have all the right gear. If you are going for just a few hours, you can possibly get away with just taking a chair out onto the ice and fishing from there. Otherwise, you want to brink along a housing unit.

From here you need to cut a hole in the ice. This is where you will be doing the actual fishing. For cutting the hole you need to provide an auger. There are different kinds of augers from powered augers to hand operated ones. Skimmers are also nice to have to get rid of the slush and ice that accumulates in and around the hole.

From here, fishing is the easy part. Bring along your fishing rod, hooks and live bait and you are ready to get out on the ice!

Whenever you go rafting, kayaking, canoeing or any sport that involves a river you should always know beforehand what to expect. Each river that has whitewater is on a rating system. This system can let you know how intense each rapid is. This system is on a scale from I to VI. The rating determines how dangerous or difficult the rapid can become.

Like many things this classification system is not always completely accurate. It, of course, does not take into consideration what type of boat is headed down the rapid, or the water level on the particular day you want to go. It is a generalization and a guide and should be taken as such. Subjectivity also comes in to play. While one experienced paddler may call something a class III, another one may argue it is a class IV.

The rating is as follows:

Class I: There is little to no obstacles and the water is moving smoothly with only a few rifles or bumps.

Class II: There are small waves that are easily maneuvered with clear channels.

Class III: There are narrow passageways that require maneuvering. This class has high, irregular waves.

Class IV: Complex maneuvering is required as the waves are difficult and long. Scouting may be required as the course is hard to determine.

Class V: Scouting is necessary with class V rapids. These rapids are very difficult and violent. They are long and even one mishap can be a big hazard. Rescue is very difficult in class V rapids.

Class VI: Commercial rapids cannot be taken through class VI rapids. The extremity of class V rapids are seen in class VI rapids, but more so. These rapids can be life threatening and should only be attempted by extreme experts.

A man by the name Alan Blake invented Octopush, also known as underwater hockey, in 1954. Originally there were 8 players on the team (hence the “octo-) who each had a tiny stick mimicking a shuffleboard stick. These were called “pushers” (hence the”-push”). When the game first began, the puck was called a “squid” and the goal was called a”cuttle”, but has since been known as a “gulley”. Since 1954, a few rules have changed that have made it into the game it is today.

Octopush is a sport much like hockey, but it is a no contact game that is played at the bottom of a pool. In this sport two teams of six players each compete against each other to force a puck into a goal. Wearing a mask, snorkel, fins and gloves, a player must attempt to get control of the puck using their pushers and force it into the other teams goal, or in this case, gulley.

Though the object of the game is similar, if not the same, as ice hockey, the equipment is much different. To start, the stick, or pusher, is extremely shorter than in ice hockey. It is only about the size of a large banana. The puck, though, is the same size as in ice hockey, but to keep it on the pool floor its weight varies. If you are playing an adult game, the puck should weigh about 3 pounds. If you are playing in a junior game, it weighs about 1 ¾ pounds.

The play begins by each team member touching the wall that his or her goal is on. From there, the game begins and players may swim anywhere in the play area. Once a goal is scored, players return to their side and play starts over until a new goal is scored.

What is synchronized swimming and what does is needed to be able to do it? Synchronized swimming is the art of swimming in patterns along with music and other swimmers. To swim in this fun sport, on a professional level, you do need a few things.

First you must be physically fit. To be flexible and have the movement of a dancer is almost an essential in this type of sport. Elegance and flexibility go a long way as those are two main points that judges expect to see when judging swimmers.

The main gear you need is your swimming suit. On a professional level there are regulations to what kind of swimming suit you can use. As a team, the swimming suits much match each of the other swimmers on your team. They must also not be too revealing and are usually custom made.

Each swimmer on the team has gelatin in their hair and painted on makeup. This adds to their costumes and benefits the audience near the pool. The gelatin also helps to keep their hair in place.

The nose clip is one of the most essential parts of a synchronized swimmers gear. It helps prevent water from getting up into the nose canal especially when doing upside down movements in the water. Each swimmer should also have another nose clip on their swimming suit incase the one they are wearing falls off.

The last part of synchronized swimmers equipment is the pool itself. There are rules to how big and wide the pool can and must be. It is required to be a minimum of 30 meters by 20 meters and it must be at least three meters deep. The temperature of the water is also in question as it should not be less than 25 degrees Celsius.

Prior to the 20th century this sport had been known as water ballet, but synchronized swimming has come a long way since then. This sport is the art of synchronizing your movements through the water to your teammates and the music. Though it sounds easy enough, synchronized swimming takes endurance, strength and flexibility.

1924 was the beginning of synchronized swimming, then called figure swimming. It started in Canada when a group of women started swimming in synch with each other. It then became a popular sport first in the United States of America. In 1984 synchronized swimming became an Olympic event that has been modified to become a female only sport. Only since 2000 did they start holding single and duet events. Before then synchronized swimming was only a team sport.

In each event, the team or duet performs a series of synchronized movements in a certain allotted time. They must perform a technical routine, which requires the swimmers to move in a specific way in a specific order. Then they must also perform a free routine, which allows the swimmers to move in any way they please and in any order.

In the Olympics the swimmers are all competing for the gold, silver and bronze medals. But how are those won in synchronized swimming? The medals are each won by tallying up the total scores for each swimmer. The swimmers are awarded on a scale of zero to ten by two groups of five judges each. One group of judges score on the physical and technical difficulty of the routine while the other group of judges score on movement and artistic impression. Though the judges have different objectives, all ten of them also judge on how well the routine was done and the difficulty of the routine in general.

When you go on a vacation white water rafting you plan your whole trip around it, but where are you going to go? Who is going to take you down the river? There are a lucky few people who get to call this adventure work.

Becoming a river guide can be a fun and very rewarding experience. Working with cool waters, beautiful locations and exciting rapids are just some of the perks to becoming a river guide. To become a river guide you must first know how to safely maneuver through rough rapids and difficult rivers as you may as well be guiding inexperienced groups of up to six through these waters.

When you become a river guide there is more than just taking groups down the river. Some guides work in the base itself and must take reservations and helping customers. For guides out on the water they must meet and greet their customers, prepare the rafts, go through a crash course in rafting, explain the safety precautions and safely guide the rafters through the water. Some groups may be more relaxed and want to take a slow ride, while others want excitement and thrills as the rush over currents of white water. As some rafting trips could be overnight, a river guide must also have wilderness skills and know the area.

Because guides need river experience, most river guides attend an instructional school where they learn the ins and outs of rafting and learn how to be a successful guide. Some of the things that a guide must learn are how to tie knots, how to recover from a flipped raft and how to fix any equipment that is damaged or broken. First aid training is required of all river guides to have completed and understood.

From surfing to kayaking to boating there are many different sports done out on the water. Feeling the splash of a wave or the calm ocean breeze there is a water sport for everyone. But have you ever stopped to consider a job in water sports? How many jobs could there really be out there? There are many different careers dealing with water sports. Some of these jobs are listed below:

· Sailing Instructor
· Kayak Coach
· Windsurfing Instructor
· Yacht Skippers
· Scuba Instructor
· Swimming Coach
· Rafting Guide

Each and every one of these jobs is just as rewarding as the next. Not only do the participants have fun and excitement, but also the instructors and coaches gain a thrill out of being on the water every day.

Sailing instructors usually have to have three years of sailing before they can qualify to become an instructor. The American Sailing Association then offers an instructor certificate that the potential instructor has to enroll in an instructor clinic to achieve.

A yacht captain you must first decide where you want to sail. For example, if you wanted to sail on one of the great lakes it would be under much different rules than sailing in international waters. Next apply for an MMD (Merchant Mariner Document).

Though there are no educational requirements for becoming a scuba instructor, it is helpful to have taken courses in environmental science and marine biology. To become a scuba instructor you must have passed a physical exam and become CPR certified. Next you must learn about scuba gear. An instructor needs to know all the components of how their gear works in order to ensure safety. Recognizing defective equipment could possibly save someones life in extreme situations. Next you must receive certification from either PADI (Professional Association of Dive Instructors) or NAUI (National Association of Underwater Instructors.

Barefooting, or barefoot water skiing, began back in 1947 when A. G. Hancock, a 17-year-old, decided to try water skiing without his skis. Later, in 1950, Richard Downing Pope and Emilio Zamudio held the first Barefooting competition in Cypress Gardens. At this time, these were the only two barefooters in the world. 13 years later, in 1963, 38 competitors participated in the first national competition.

Though there are many optional pieces of equipment that you can use while barefooting, there are three main things that are required. A boat, rope with a handle, and a PDF (personal flotation device) are suggested to always have when barefooting. The boat is for towing the rider usually at speeds of around 30-45 miles an hour. Some boats are even specially made just for barefooting that can travel at higher speeds. The rope and handle come in many different types. Some may detach easily from the boat or other towing device in the case that the rider becomes entangled in the rope. Barefoot handles are made special as to not produce rope burn. It is made with plastic tubing for when the barefooter wraps his or her feet around it. As for the PDF many barefooting or skiing wetsuits now come with a PDF already installed so as to reduce the bulkiness that the rider has to carry with him or her.

Other optional equipment for barefooting include a barefoot wetsuit, booms, padded shorts and shoe skis. The neoprene barefoot wetsuit comes with a personal flotation device already installed. Many barefooters wear neoprene shorts as well. This is to protect his or her buttocks when either starting in deep water or in case of a tumble. Booms and shoe skis are both used in order to help train new barefooters.
